Mental note for next summer road trip!

Fascinating! It is wonderful how diverse America's geography is.

I would suggest Washington State's Olympic Peninsula . The only temperate rain forest in the lower 48 with it's 1000 shades of green, snow capped mountains and a wild coast. August is a great time to visit bring the driest time of the year yet cooler then most places in the US.
